Raw Diva Notes 10/12/09 And Diva Trade

What a shocking night on Raw. All divas got used. The show was hosted by Nancy O’Dell with Maria Menounos, who did indeed compete as well. There was also a diva trade announced.
Getting right to the huge shocker, Mickie James is no longer Diva’s Champion. She lost it to Jillian Hall. Last week, I raised my curiosity about why they let Mickie dominate that match as she did. I said it was either a “gold watch” victory, or they were going to take that momentum away big time. They did. The Jillian fans can celebrate. You complained that she never gets a shot at the title. First time she did, she won. I have a problem with that. When was the last time she actually pinned someone to win a match? She has no momentum or credibility booked into her (I am not talking about her years in wrestling), but she gets a title shot and wins it? Not only was that poor building for Jillian, it makes Mickie James look weak to lose in a match that only lasted less than two minutes to Jillian after she has beaten more credible opponents in longer matches. The match was so short, it may not hurt to even call the action. Match starts, they lock up, Jillian gets the side-headlock advantage, Mickie whips her into the ropes and drops down, she tries to get Jillian in a hiptoss on the rebound, Jillian rushes to counter into a monkey flip, Mickie counters into a handstand into a kneeling position and charges Jillian with a Lou Thesz Press with punches, she follows with a dropkick and a pin, Jillian kicks out, Mickie tries for her DDT, Jillian counters for her facebuster, Mickie blocks it and jackknifes Jillian, Jillian kicks out again, Mickie dodges a swing from Jillian and hits a spin kick to the midsection, whips Jillian hard into the corner, charges, but Jillian ducks low as Mickie gets on the ropes, hits a powerbomb, and it is over. Jillian used the ropes, but Mickie pretty much sold it as a knockout. The rope bit was not even needed. Mickie took nothing away from Jillian. She made Jillian look like she did earn that win, even though the WWE will push the story of the ropes to try to save Mickie some credibility. I am happy Jillian finally got a bit of respect, but I am not happy with how it went down, and the story is not over yet. Jillian defeats Mickie James for the Diva’s Championship. I will review Mickie’s title reign tomorrow.
The guest host comes out, announces the diva trade, and kills Jillian’s celebration song by bringing out the Paparazzi Princess, Melina, who gets an immediate title shot? That is just a kick in the pants of Jillian, who goes on to lose her title even faster than Mickie just did. That just makes Melina look above both. I can even call this short match easily. Jillian goes frantic at having to defend her title. Melina sets up for her splits finisher, but I do not know whether Jillian was supposed to escape it in her frantic state or not, but then why would Melina still try to go for a pin? In any case, the spot comes off sloppy. Melina hit her newer finisher to win the match and the title. Melina defeats Jillian for the Diva’s Championship.
Some tension was teased between the guest hosts and Beth Phoenix, who was traded to Smackdown. This leads to an eventual 6-diva tag. Beth Phoenix, Rosa Mendes, and Alicia Fox vs. Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, and Maria Menounos (the celebrity guest). Maria, who was injured while training, still did well enough in this match. Getting to it, the faces win when Kelly pins Rosa. Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim, and Maria defeat Rosa Mendes, Alicia Fox, and Beth Phoenix.
Seven divas were traded. Melina to Raw. Beth to Smackdown. Mickie to Smackdown. Both Bellas to Raw. Rosa to ECW. And Eve to Raw. I will say more on the draft in a few days.
