Farewell, Vickie!

It looks like the WWE will not spend much more time with the memory of Vickie Guerrero, having fully dove into the Trump angle. Unlike certain other talent, I doubt Vickie will pop up on TNA in a few months. This may very well be the absolute end of her on a wrestling show. This is a short reflection to remember her by.
Vickie Guerrero first appeared in 2005, when her husband, Eddie Guerrero, was still with us. He was involved in a very personal feud with Rey Mysterio over Rey’s son. Vickie cost her husband a match against Rey. When Eddie got inducted into the Hall of Fame the next year, Vickie appeared again with her children to accept the honor. She later returned, turned heel, and became a manager for Chavo Guerrero. The WWE eventually moved her up to being the GM of Smackdown, a great role for a non-wrestler. With this position of power, the WWE worked her into a marriage angle with Edge. This made her a big player in the WWE. She became the wife of one of the top heels in the WWE, as well as a man who is closing in on the number of title reigns Triple H has and in less time. They became the definition of a power couple. They won a Slammy award in the end of 2008. Vickie soon crossed over to being GM of Raw, the flagship brand. She continued working that heel role she had developed on Smackdown. She became the first real woman to hold the title of “Miss Wrestlemania” by defeating Santina Marella. When the time for her eventual parting of ways with the WWE came, the whole world came crashing down on her as she lost her crown back to Santina, quit as Raw GM, and got humiliated by Edge before he announced the divorce.
As I have said before, she was a great heel. Many may take for granted how hard it is to play a heel. You have to be willing to take a ton of boos. Some heels can get that heat, but these heels get it by cheap means and do not know how to entertain. With Vickie Guerrero, she welcomed those boos. “EXCUSE ME!” She was asking for the boos. Was she good in terms of entertaining? In a sense, she endured a lot of humiliation. Nude photos, constant jokes from guys like Santino and Cena, and the hog pen match was a nice farewell. She was also involved in that love triangle. I am not the only one who has praised Vickie for her work as a heel. Many fans had to admit that she was enjoying her role. She did not enter the business with much in terms of individual talent, but she put her heart into being hated. Many wrestlers to come can learn from that.
I cannot blame Vickie for wanting to leave. She has children to raise. They lost their father a few years ago. Family has to come first for her. I know very well she will always be remembered by the wrestling community for her role as a heel GM, just as Eddie Guerrero will be remembered for his talents inside the ring and out.
