Is The Melina/McCool Feud Starting To Lag?

Smackdown featured Melina/Eve vs. McCool/Layla. They finally got around to a simple combination of the two diva feuds on the brand. It is also interesting to note that McCool pinned Melina this time. That is the second week in a row that Melina takes a pinfall loss. More importantly, McCool finally pinned her. So much for the WWE making use of the idea that McCool has never been able to pin Melina. Would have been an interesting thing to work with, but they may not want McCool to look like she cannot beat the face in this feud. It would have been too similar to what is going on with the Raw diva feud right now.
I am beginning to think that it was a mistake for them to name McCool as the #1 contender so soon. It happened well before Extreme Rules, yet Melina did not defend the Women’s Championship there. Of course, the building of McCool as the top threat started before she even defeated Gail Kim to earn the right to face Melina. That is roughly two months of McCool eying Melina. How do they keep this feud fresh? Seemingly by having both women just run the roster. McCool has pinned Melina. Melina has pinned McCool. McCool has pinned Gail Kim many times. Melina has pinned Alicia. Layla has pinned Melina. It is obvious that they are just wasting time, probably for The Bash. I would not be surprised to see Melina vs. Layla and/or McCool vs. Eve before the title match between the main players. It is diva action, so that is nice. It is just missing some creativity. It is the criticism that many may now be noticing even more. Raw is the place for storylines, but Smackdown is the place for wrestling action. Kelly Kelly may not be able to wrestle a great match, but she is helping in extending Maryse vs. Mickie James in an interesting way. Mickie wants Maryse, but Kelly Kelly is a minor block that Maryse herself was responsible in setting up. Without going into more detail about the idea that Maryse fears Mickie and all that, there is a storyline going on there to some degree. All McCool vs. Melina has is the heel’s desire to win gold. She has a lackey, Alicia. They might have tried doing more interesting things with her. They could have also tried mixing Layla vs. Eve more into it, but I do not agree with that choice. Let Layla and Eve do their own thing to help get themselves some credibility. It just feels, to me at least, that this title feud is dragging on unnecessarily. It may have been different if they did not waste naming McCool as the next challenger so early on, like I have already said. Just have McCool and Melina exchange necessary wins and losses until the time came to set things into acceleration. That is how you build a feud, even a simple title feud, to a climax.
