Wrestlemania Diva Match Rumor And Notes On Mickie James
Look at what I wrote about my initial thoughts on possible Wrestlemania matches for the women. Now look at the match that seems likely.
The last thing I mentioned in that article last month was for them to do anything but a battle royal. Does the WWE just do these things to spite me?
They had an interesting thing going on with Melina, Maryse, and the addition of Michelle McCool (it will become clear on Smackdown). I was thinking this was going to lead into a feud for Wrestlemania involving those three women, and possibly more, in a tag match or two-falls match for both the Women’s Championship and Diva’s Championship. I was really hoping for the latter choice, which seemed like a bigger match to hype. Instead, they are just going to lump all the women they have now into a match with a few former divas. McCool gets her match, Trish gets her return, Natalya gets to compete against Trish, Beth, and others on the big stage, both champions will be there, and Mickie James finally gets another match at Wrestlemania. I should be happy? I am not. This is not using these women right. Many of the women in this match will most likely be slopfest-divas. This match will be nothing but to give one of these women a symbolic “Queen of the Divas” title. I would rather see a competitive match with a good feud behind it. I will probably say more once this match is announced by the WWE itself, with names on who may be in.
Turning to Mickie James, wrestling news sites are now reporting that John Cena recently said in an interview that he will be marrying his longtime high-school sweetheart. Exactly where does that put the rumors that Mickie James and John Cena dated in real life? Did Mickie and John have a brief relationship? I said months ago not to believe the rumors some of these wrestling news sites toss out there. The WWE pairs Cena and Mickie up for a brief romance-tease angle, but people jump to conclusions that this was based on a romance in real life. It is possible for a man and woman to be just friends. Yes, children and wrestling news sites, it is true. It seems even they have trouble separating kayfabe from reality. Does it make sense for Cena to be dating Mickie, suddenly break up a few months ago when news sites reported they broke up, and then run back to his longtime girlfriend to get engaged? Sounds like a plot of a movie to me, not like reality. Months before all this, the news sites also mentioned Cena saying he would like to relive his brief time with Mickie James in a WWE.com interview. Cena was obviously talking in kayfabe there, a lot of wrestlers do it in those live chats. And even if the news sites did want to treat that as concerning reality, it would imply they broke up around then. The news sites just keep contradicting themselves. Mickie and Cena never dated romantically in real life. Best of luck to Cena with his marriage.
The last thing I want to say about Mickie James is how disappointed I am in what her involvement at Wrestlemania may be. I would rather rant on them leaving her off the card. She will most likely go into the event with little attention, little momentum, and only be in the match to be someone else’s impressive elimination. This whole match can be better served to be more personal. The WWE is trying with Maryse, Melina, and McCool, but tossing in Mickie, the other divas, and past women without a creative reason is a letdown. I will speak later on about how Mickie James impressed me with her first Wrestlemania, but she will not be given the chance to do it again in a 25-diva battle royal.
