Raw Diva Notes 12/15/08
At least all the divas got time tonight. Kelly Kelly and Melina defeated Jillian and Beth Phoenix. Layla did her usual thing. Mickie and Candice had a brief backstage segment with Kelly. Did you miss Katie Lea? She was standing around while Kane was rampaging.
We also saw the debut of a new diva. That “fan” with the Beth sign is supposedly Milena Roucka. Very beautiful, and I have been waiting for them to bring her up. Seems she will have an obsessive fan gimmick. But the segment they had before the match was not what Beth’s character should be doing. Being fan friendly? Beyond the fact that she is a heel, her character itself is supposed to be on a higher level, snobbish in a sense. Of course, much like Khali, when you are that horrible in the ring and in portraying your character, they have to make you into a comedy heel. Besides, the segment got to make Beth seem somewhat popular and fan-friendly. Cheap advertising at its best. Hopefully, they do not try to copy the Mickie plot with Trish. That was honestly the greatest storyline from any group of women wrestlers I have ever seen. The WWE better not try to write it out of the books by attempting to outdo it. Roucka does not need a psycho lesbian gimmick anyway.
Looking at the match tonight, it was a tag match, right? Melina got dressed up to just do her entrance, stand around, and get shoved? Beth Phoenix working scarcely is nothing new, but Melina deserves better. Do not worry, Melina will still get her title push. This match was just meant to put over another romance. Before I talk about that, Kelly Kelly and Jillian mixed it up in singles action tonight (I refuse to mention it as a tag match anymore), and nothing spectacular anywhere. Nothing new from Kelly Kelly that has not already been seen since she first showed her amazing improvement. Another match that makes me want for the WWE to treat their women better even more badly.
After the match, the real fun started. They are really trying to get Kelly Kelly very over. A plot with Kane? That is a potential main-event push right there. At least this romance does not seem like it will make Kelly Kelly look like a slut, somewhat like the romance angle between Mickie and Cena was making Mickie feel, and thus her eventual desire to end it. Kelly has been involved in some slutty situations, though, so the fans may get some fun stuff out of this. We already got Miz getting Tombstoned. How long can Kelly throw Kane off with lies? How will Candice and Mickie factor in with their minor roles? Will Kane come for Kelly, but her two friends will try to protect her, feeling Kane’s wrath in the process? I was really hoping for a lesbian angle, where Kelly said it was Mickie James she loved, but WWE will not go there for a while. And that was just me dreaming that they will give Mickie James a good storyline again, but once again, the WWE will not go there for a while. As I said before, this is a huge push for a woman who is not a great wrestler and has been pretty bland and generic for a long time. At least now Kelly has a chance to gain some character and depth. They really want someone to be the next Trish Stratus.
Lastly, Stephanie McMahon is still here. I like that she is still in charge of Raw. However, she is still not in shape. I hope she does get back in shape soon, maybe even refresh her wrestling skills, and gets physical again. She is a lot of fun when she is actually physically involved in feuds.
